Understanding the Need
As the opioid epidemic has been brought into the spotlight, the focus has been on those who have substance use disorder and their treatment. Less resources have been created for those impacted by the behaviors and life-situations of those with these disorders.
1 in 4 (or 19 million) children live in a home with a parent struggling with substance use disorder.
4x: Children who grow up in a household with SUD are 4 times more likely to develop a substance use disorder (SAMHSA)
Award-winning Youth Mentoring Program
Camp Mariposa runs six times per year and offers fun camp activities alongside education and support sessions that build resiliency and ultimately break the cycle of SUD. Camp programs serve youth ages 9-12 and select locations offer camps for teens 13-17. All programs are led by mental health professionals and trained adult mentors.
After the program, campers are given an opportunity to continue their involvement and build leadership skills as Junior Counselors. Additional social and educational activities are offered for youth, alumni and their families throughout the year.
