Every September, communities across the nation and around the world come together to recognize National Recovery Month—a time dedicated to celebrating the millions of people living healthy, fulfilling lives in recovery from substance use and mental health challenges.
Recovery is not simply about abstaining from substances. It is about rebuilding lives, restoring relationships, rediscovering purpose, and proving that healing is possible.
At Revive Recovery, we witness these transformations every day.
Recovery Happens Every Day
Recovery looks different for everyone.
For some, it means celebrating one day in recovery.
For others, it means years of sustained recovery while mentoring those just beginning their journey.
Recovery may include counseling, peer recovery support, recovery housing, medication for opioid use disorder, faith, family, community, or simply finding hope one step at a time.
There is no single path.
What matters is that recovery is possible.
Every person deserves the opportunity to heal without judgment and with the support they need.
National Recovery Month
Sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), National Recovery Month shines a light on the strength and resilience of individuals in recovery while recognizing the families, professionals, peers, and communities who support them.
It reminds us that recovery is not rare.
Millions of Americans are living proof that people can and do recover.
Throughout September, organizations like Revive Recovery work to reduce stigma, educate our communities, and celebrate the incredible accomplishments of those who have chosen recovery.
September 20: National Addiction Professionals Day
Behind every recovery story is often a team of compassionate professionals who dedicate their lives to helping others.
On National Addiction Professionals Day, we recognize the counselors, peer recovery specialists, social workers, nurses, recovery residence staff, case managers, physicians, outreach specialists, and countless others who walk beside individuals during some of life's most difficult moments.
These professionals do far more than provide services.
They listen.
They encourage.
They advocate.
They celebrate victories both big and small.
To every recovery professional who chooses compassion over judgment and hope over despair—thank you for the difference you make every single day.
September 30: International Recovery Day
Recovery has no borders.
International Recovery Day is observed around the globe to spread one simple but powerful message:
Recovery is possible.
This day reminds us that addiction affects people from every background, every community, and every culture—but so does hope.
By sharing stories of recovery, we challenge stigma and inspire those who may still be struggling to believe that a different future is within reach.
Sometimes all it takes is hearing one person's story to realize your own story isn't over.
How You Can Support Recovery
Whether you are in recovery yourself or simply want to make your community stronger, everyone has a role to play.
You can:
Learn about substance use disorder and recovery.
Replace stigma with compassion.
Celebrate recovery milestones.
Support local recovery organizations.
Volunteer your time.
Encourage someone who may be struggling.
Share messages of hope.
Small acts of kindness can change lives.
Recovery is Worth Celebrating
At Revive Recovery, we believe every day in recovery is a victory.
Whether someone is celebrating 24 hours, one year, or twenty years, each milestone represents courage, resilience, and the decision to keep moving forward.
This September, we invite you to celebrate recovery with us.
Honor those who have found healing.
Thank the professionals who make recovery possible.
And remember that no matter where someone is on their journey, hope is always stronger than substance use disorder.
Recovery is real. Recovery is possible. Recovery is worth celebrating.
